One of my life-long goals is education. As Mandela says, "education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." I am currently seeking funding to assist me in another educational endeavour; I plan to study travel and tourism which will further help me in changing the world. Besides participating in several important courses like Phaphama's Alternatives to Violence Project, character building, and basic business skills, I have consistently attempted to highlight the contribution ex-offenders can have on their communities. With this in mind I have began the Youth Emancipation Movement (YEM) which aims to help young people escape distress caused by obstacles such as drugs, crime, and HIV/Aids. YEM, then, is an attempt to address, discuss, and solve issues facing young people in South Africa today. In fact, with the help from the city of Capetown, I was able to organise YEM's first open day. There, young people were able to enjoy dancing, soccer, and discussing. On that day alone, 50 youths joined YEM.

It was a wonderful way to reach out to at risk youth while illustrating the positive impact ex-offenders can have. At YEM we are dedicated to supporting and educating each other. Together, we can build a South Africa that responds to our aspirations.
